The Punjab Kings (PBKS) won by 11 runs over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Shikhar Dhawan blazed with the bat in his 200th IPL game, scoring an unbeaten 88*(59) before PBKS sealed an 11-run victory in yet another last-over finish. CSK lost Robin Uthappa's wicket early in their chase for a target of 188 after the opener was caught inside the circle off Sandeep Sharma's bowling. CSK were 32-2 at the end of the powerplay when Ruturaj Gaikwad hit two fours before Arshdeep Singh whacked Mitchell Santner's stumps.
After the left-handed hitter inside—edged the ball onto the stumps against Rishi Dhawan, Shivam Dube was the next batter to be dismissed. Rayudu hit a four and a six in the ninth over, resulting in 13 runs. CSK led 69-3 at halftime until Rayudu scored four and six more to the total. After Gaikwad was caught in the deep in the 13th over, Rabada broke the partnership. Rayudu hit his half-century with a six in the 15th over, and CSK needed 70 from the final five overs. Rayudu smashed three consecutive sixes followed by a four in the 16th over, allowing 23 runs to be scored. From 24 deliveries, the equation had been reduced to 47 runs.
In the 18th over, Rabada removed Ambati Rayudu's stumps to halt the momentum. In the penultimate over, Arshdeep Singh conceded only 8 runs, and CSK needed 27 runs off 6 deliveries. MS Dhoni hit a six off the opening ball, however PBKS won the game by 11 runs in the end after Dhoni was caught in the deep. After PBKS were 29-0 after five overs, CSK bowlers began to exert pressure on openers Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan. After Rajapaksa was caught by Shivam Dube in the 18th over, Bravo put an end to the partnership. Liam Livingstone smashed two sixes and a four in the 19th over before Bravo removed the right-handed batter in the last over. As PBKS reached 187/4 in the first innings, Dhawan remained undefeated on 88.
