Dominant Indian Act in Asian Champions Trophy Opening
India marked their opening day in the women's Asian Champions Trophy with a 4-0 dominating win over Malaysia, led by Sangita Kumari who recorded a brace. Preeti Dubey and Udita Duhan also contributed to the victory by getting their names on the scoresheet. The Malaysian side, however, posed a minor challenge to the Indian squad who navigated through the game with sufficient ease.
Notably, the attacking play and the conversion from penalty corners were areas where the Indian team fell short, converting only three out of 15 opportunities, a fact that didn't sit well with the Indian coach, Harendra Singh. India's lead was initiated by Sangita during the first quarter after a scrambled move kept alive by the combined efforts of Lalremsiami and Deepika.
India widened the margin in the third quarter with Preeti Dubey and Udita Duhan adding to the scoreboard. Sangita finished her spectacular performance by netting another goal past the Malaysian goalkeeper to complete her brace.
In other matches of the day, Japan ended with a 2-2 draw with Korea, and China recorded a stunning 15-0 victory over Thailand. Moving forward swiftly, India is set to face Korea in their next match of the tournament this Tuesday.
