37th match, LSG vs MI, IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants won by 36 runs

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) returned to winning ways in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 36 runs. KL Rahul led the charge with the bat, smashing his second incredible century of the season as LSG won by 36 runs in Mumbai. MI openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan took their time getting going while chasing a score of 169. With the bat, the MI captain led the assault and got off to a good start with a four. In the sixth over, Rohit smashed his first maximum of the innings, and MI were 43-0 at the end of the powerplay.

After the left-handed batter was caught at first slip, Ravi Bishnoi took Kishan's wicket. Mohsin Khan's bowling captured Dewald Brevis at third-man in the ninth over. Following the dismissals of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, MI lost two more wickets and found themselves in a difficult situation. Tilak Varma switched gears and smacked two sixes in Bishnoi's second over, resulting in 16 runs. Varma smashed consecutive fours off the first two deliveries from Holder's bowling with 71 needed off the final five overs.

MI needed 50 runs off the last three overs, and Pollard and Varma helped them get there. Holder surrendered only 6 runs and took Tilak Varma's vital wicket. In the penultimate over, Dushmantha Chameera only let up 5 runs. Krunal Pandya, who bowled the final over, took two wickets and a run-out to help LSG win by 36 runs. Earlier, LSG made one alteration to their lineup, with Mohsin Khan replacing Avesh Khan in the eleven. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, the LSG openers, started cautiously. Mumbai Indians got off to a good start thanks to Jasprit Bumrah

While de Kock was given a reprieve in the fourth over, he was caught within the circle on the next pitch. LSG were 32-1 at the end of the powerplay, and skipper KL Rahul was joined at the crease by Manish Pandey. In the ninth over, Rahul played a release shot that went all the way for a maximum after a quiet couple of overs. LSG were 72-1 at the half-way mark after Pandey hit his first six of the innings and Rahul added two fours in the 10th over.

In the next over, KL Rahul reached his half-century, but Pandey was caught at short fine-leg by Kieron Pollard, who ended the partnership. Daniel Sams and Pollard got two more wickets in quick succession, dismissing Stoinis and Krunal Pandya, respectively. Deepak Hooda's innings came to an end with a soft dismissal, and LSG were 126/5 with four overs to go. In the 18th over, KL Rahul smashed three fours in a succession to surge into the nineties. In the penultimate over, Jasprit Bumrah only let up four runs.

With a six, the LSG captain reached his second century of the season. LSG concluded their innings with a total of 168/6 after Ayush Badoni hit a maximum right down the ground before holed out to long-on.

Scores: Lucknow Super Giants 168/6 (KL Rahul 103*, Manish Pandey 22; Kieron Pollard 2-8) beat Mumbai Indians 132/8 (Rohit Sharma 39, Tilak Varma 38; Krunal Pandya 3-19) by 36 runs.
