Cheteshwar Pujara will become the 13th Indian cricketer to play 100 Test matches against Australia

About

When India plays Australia in the second Test, which begins on Friday in New Delhi, veteran Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara is poised to join a select group (17 February).

In three days, Pujara will enter the field and become the 13th Indian cricketer to play 100 Tests. Pujara will become just the second player to reach the milestone in the current Team India Test lineup. In March 2022, Virat Kohli faced Sri Lanka in Mohali in his 100th Test match.

What they said

"The list's top player is Sachin Tendulkar with 200 Test matches, followed by VVS Laxman (134 Tests) and current India head coach Rahul Dravid (163). Anil Kumble, Sunil Gavaskar, and Sourav Ganguly are among the Indians on the list who have played 100 or more Tests," the BCCI stated.

Pujara had actually played in his first Test against Australia on October 9, 2010, in Bengaluru. In the first innings of that game, Pujara batted at number five but only managed to score four runs. He was given the opportunity to bat at number three in the second innings, though, and he ended up scoring the game-winning 72 as India defeated Australia by seven wickets to win the series 2-0.

Overview

Pujara has accrued 7021 runs at an average of 44.15 in the 99 Test matches he has played so far. Pujara has a strong record in Test matches against Australia, amassing 1900 runs from 21 games at an average of 52.77, with five hundreds and 10 fifty-plus scores. With 521 runs from four Test matches, Pujara led the Indian team's run scoring during the 2018–19 tour of Australia, which helped India win their first Test series ever there.
