42nd match, PBKS vs LSG, IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants won by 20 runs

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won their second game in a row in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Friday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 20 runs. LSG successfully defended a goal of 154 thanks to a strong bowling performance led by Mohsin Khan and Krunal Pandya, who took five key wickets between them.

PBKS openers Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal started solidly with the bat as they chased 154. Before PBKS skipper Agarwal was caught at mid-off by his opposite number, he smashed two fours and as many sixes. At the completion of the powerplay, PBKS led 46-1. Ravi Bishnoi used a slider to castle Dhawan and struck as soon as he was introduced to the attack.

After Rajapaksa's leading edge was caught within the circle, Krunal Pandya claimed the third wicket of the innings. PBKS were 67-3 at the end of ten overs, thanks to the English duo of Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow in the middle.

Livingstone smacked two consecutive sixes against Bishnoi, but the right-handed hitter was eventually caught behind by Mohsin Khan. Jitesh Sharma was trapped LBW by Krunal Pandya, who bowled a wicket-maiden over, putting PBKS in even more danger. Before the PBKS wicket-keeper was caught at third man, Bairstow hit two fours. In the 18th over, Mohsin Khan took two wickets, dismissing Rabada and Chahar.

After requiring 31 runs off the final over, PBKS fell 20 runs short, and LSG successfully defended the total in the end. Earlier, LSG made one alteration to their lineup, with Avesh Khan replacing Manish Pandey in the eleven. Rabada took an early wicket of opposing captain KL Rahul, who was caught behind in the third over, as PBKS bowled swiftly with the new ball.

LSG were 39-1 at the end of the powerplay after Quinton de Kock smashed the ball cleanly for two sixes.

In the ninth over, Deepak Hooda, who joined de Kock in the middle, smashed his first six of the innings with a lofted drive. LSG were 67-1 at halftime before Hooda hit his second six of the innings, followed by a four.

In the 13th over, de Kock hit two fours before being caught behind by Sandeep Sharma's bowling. Hooda's tenure at the crease came to an end in the next over, thanks to a stunning direct hit from Bairstow in the deep. After dismissing Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni, Rabada added two more wickets to his tally.

In the next over, Rahul Chahar took a stunning catch off his own bowling to eliminate Marcus Stoinis, and then Holder was caught in the deep. Dushmantha Chameera and Mohsin Khan both hit sixes before Rabada got his fourth wicket to dismiss Chameera. PBKS scored 153/8 in the first innings, thanks to Mohsin Khan's four on the final delivery.

Scores: Lucknow Super Giants 153/6 (Quinton de Kock 46, Deepak Hooda 34; Kagiso Rabada 4-38) beat Punjab Kings 133/8 (Jonny Bairstow 32, Mayank Agarwal 25; Mohsin Khan 3-24) by 20 runs.
