On Tuesday, January 3, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, India and Sri Lanka played in the 1st T20I match of the Sri Lanka tour of India, 2023.
Team India defeated Sri Lanka in the opening T20I encounter by 2 runs thanks to a strong innings from Deepak Hooda and a four-wicket haul from the rookie Shivam Mavi. Prior to being led by Hooda (41) and Axar Patel (31) to a total of 162/5 in 20 overs, Team India lost a few early wickets.
Although Chamika Karunaratne played an undefeated innings of 23 runs when Sri Lanka was chasing 163, they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. The visitors, though, were bowled out at 160 in the thrilling final ball, falling short by 2 runs.
