58th match, RR vs DC: Delhi Capitals won by 8 wickets

The Delhi Capitals (DC) won the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Wednesday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, defeating the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 8 wickets. Mitchell Marsh and David Warner shared a match-winning century stand, giving DC an important victory after they chased down the target with eleven balls to spare. DC lost Srikar Bharat's wicket in the first over of their chase for 161, as the opener was caught behind off Trent Boult's bowling. After Prasidh Krishna bowled a maiden over from the other end, DC was under pressure.

After an early wicket, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh led the recovery, and DC were 38-1 after six overs. The tandem was up for the fifty partnership, with Marsh performing the brunt of the hitting. Warner hit his first six boundaries before getting a respite in the ninth over. Before Marsh hit his half-century with a six, DC led 74-1 at the midway point. With 47 required off the final five balls, the century partnership was up for the second wicket and DC were in command. Marsh smashed two tremendous sixes, but Warner remained second best. Marsh's innings came to an end when Chahal removed him for 89 runs.

Earlier, RR made one change to their lineup, with Rassie van der Dussen replacing Shimron Hetmyer in the eleven. Early in the innings, RR lost Jos Buttler to Chetan Sakariya's bowling as the opener was caught inside the circle. R Ashwin, who had been pushed up the order, hit three fours and a six, and RR were 43-1 at the end of the powerplay. After Yashasvi Jaiswal holed out to the deep for Mitchell Marsh's maiden wicket, the RR openers were sent back to the pavilion.

RR were 68-2 at the midway point, with Devdutt Padikkal joining Ashwin at the crease. After a quiet couple of overs, Ashwin relieved the pressure by smashing his second maximum. Padikkal surged from the other end, hitting Axar Patel for successive sixes. Marsh took his second wicket and removed Ashwin before he reached his half-century. With five overs remaining, RR were 116/3. Sanju Samson was dismissed by Anrich Nortje thanks to a superb catch by Shardul Thakur.

Riyan Parag hit a six before holeing out to the deep off Sakaria's bowling, while Nortje picked up his second wicket to dismiss Padikkal, who was two runs shy of his half-century. As RR reached 160-6 in the first innings, Shardul Thakur's penultimate over yielded only 6 runs.

Scores: Delhi Capitals 161/2 (Mitchell Marsh 89, David Warner 52*; Trent Boult 1-32) beat Rajasthan Royals 160/6 (Ravi Ashwin 60, Devdutt Padikkal 48; Chetan Sakariya 2-23) by 8 wickets.
