51st match, GT vs MI, IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians won by 5 runs
The Mumbai Indians (MI) won their second consecutive game in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Friday at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by 5 runs. MI successfully defended their score of 177-6 because to Daniel Sams' outstanding last over, in which he conceded only 3 runs and guided the team to a 5-run victory. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha, the GT openers, were off to a flying start as the fifty partnership was up for the first wicket inside the powerplay.
As the opener hammered five fours and two sixes, Saha did the majority of the striking and was timing the ball to perfection. GT were 54/0 at the end of the powerplay as Gill joined his partner and added a four and six each. Gill hit three consecutive fours off Daniel Sams' bowling before hitting his second six of the innings in the next over. GT were 95/0 at the midway point before Saha hit his half-century, and the first wicket partnership was over. MI made a breakthrough when Gill was caught in the outfield by Murugan Ashwin's bowling. After a similar dismissal by Saha, Ashwin claimed his second wicket.
The next hitter, Sai Sudharsan, smashed a maximum straight down the pitch before being bowled out hit-wicket by Kieron Pollard. As GT required 20 runs off the final two overs, Hardik Pandya was run-out by Ishan Kishan's direct hit. Miller hit a maximum in the last over, reducing the equation to 9 balls out of 6. Daniel Sams allowed only three runs in the last over, allowing MI to win by five runs. Earlier, MI made one change to their lineup, with Murugan Ashwin replacing Hrithik Shokeen in the eleven.
MI were 33-0 after Rohit Sharma smashed three fours and two sixes to start the innings. MI were 63-0 after 6 overs when Ishan Kishan smashed three fours to bring up the fifty partnership for the first wicket. After Rohit was trapped LBW in the eighth over, Rashid Khan broke the partnership. Suryakumar Yadav, the next batsman, hit a maximum but mistimed a stroke against Pradeep Sangwan, who was caught by Rashid Khan. In the 12th over, Alzarri Joseph fooled Ishan Kishan with a slower delivery, and the opener was caught within the circle. Rashid Khan then cleaned up Kieron Pollard, giving him his second wicket.
After Tim David smashed consecutive fours, MI was 142/4. Tilak Varma was run-out on the other end by a direct hit from the GT skipper. In the final over, David hit two sixes to help MI achieve a competitive total of 177-6.
