50th match, DC vs SRH, IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals won by 21 runs

The Delhi Capitals (DC) won their fifth match in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Thursday at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 21 runs. Before DC won by 21 runs, David Warner's sparkling 92* and Rovman Powell's clinical finish with the bat helped the side to a commanding total of 207-3. SRH lost Abhishek Sharma early in the chase after the opener was caught inside the circle by Khaleel Ahmed's bowling.

After Kane Williamson was caught behind in the fifth over, Anrich Nortje took the crucial wicket. SRH were 35/2 after 6 overs as Rahul Tripathi hit two fours and a six inside the powerplay. After Rahul Tripathi was caught at deep square-leg by Shardul Thakur, Mitchell Marsh added to his wicket tally. After each smashing a six, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran steadied the ship for SRH. At the midway point, SRH were 63-3 before Markram struck three fours in the next over.

After the right-handed batter smashed two sixes against Kuldeep Yadav, the runs continued to pour off Markram's bat as the fifty partnership was up for the fourth wicket. After Markram was caught at long-range, Khaleel Ahmed put an end to the stand. Pooran did not let the momentum slip away as the left-handed batter smacked Nortje for two sixes. The situation narrowed to 62 off 24 for SRH when Shardul Thakur grabbed Shashank Singh's wicket. Pooran reached fifty off just 29 deliveries. SRH lost their sixth wicket, but they still needed 55 runs in 18 balls. As SRH needed 43 off 12, Thakur took the crucial wicket of Pooran.

SRH scored 21 runs in the final two overs but fell 22 runs short of the mark. Mandeep Singh, Ripal Patel, Khaleel Ahmed, and Anrich Nortje were named in the eleven earlier by DC, who were put in to bat first. Mandeep Singh was caught behind in the opening over, giving SRH an early advantage. To begin the batting, Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered a fantastic wicket-maiden over. As 21 runs were surrendered off Umran Malik's first over, David Warner started boldly and smashed three fours and a six at the top.

Mitchell Marsh was dismissed by Sean Abott, who took a brilliant catch off his own bowling. At the completion of the powerplay, DC was 50/2. Rishabh Pant, who recently joined Warner, hit three sixes in a row against Shreyas Gopal. DC were 91-3 at the midway point when the spinner bounced back and struck the skipper's stumps out in the same over. Warner reached his half-century with a four, and Rovman Powell followed with his first six. Warner hit another four and a six, while SRH dropped Rovman Powell twice.

With four overs to go, DC were 147-3, thanks to a fifty-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Powell hit two huge sixes against Abbott in the 17th over, scoring 18 runs. After hitting three fours in the penultimate over, Warner was in the nineties. As DC amassed 207-3 in the first innings, Powell added the final touch with three fours and a monster six.

Scores: Delhi Capitals 207/3 (David Warner 92*, Rovman Powell 67*; Bhuvneshwar Kumar 1-25) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 186/8 (Nicholas Pooran 62, Aiden Markram 42; Khaleel Ahmed 3-30) by 21 runs.
