Australia vs England: Test 4, it’s a draw!
On a dramatic last day of the fourth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, England's tailenders held off Australia's spinners in dwindling light to secure a draw.
After Pat Cummins and Scott Boland grabbed 3 quick wickets in the final session, Jack Leach, Stuart Broad, and then Jimmy Anderson batted out the final 10 overs under enormous strain. With two overs remaining, Steve Smith added to the suspense by plucking Leach's wicket.
England concluded on 270-9 at stumps, with Broad unbeaten on 8 and Anderson not out on zero, giving them their greatest result in the five-match series, which Australia leads 3-0.
With the last hour approached, Cummins removed Jos Buttler and Mark Wood in the space of three deliveries, turning the Test on its head when it appeared that England's most determined batting effort of the series would end in a draw.
Scott Boland then added to his remarkable start to Test cricket by having Jonny Bairstow, the first-innings centurion, caught at bat pad by Marnus Labuschagne for 41. Boland took his 14th wicket in only his second Test after being chosen man of the match on his debut in Melbourne.
