Bangladesh created history with their 8-wicket victory over New Zealand on January 5, 2022, in the 1st Test in Mount Maunganui. That was also their first ever win in New Zealand across formats. Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque pinted out that it was vital to keep the legacy of Test cricket alive in his country and was direct indication that the Tigers were enhancing as a Test nation.
“I think this is an indication that we are improving as a Test nation. After the Pakistan series, everyone was eager to do well in Tests and it was reflected in all three departments” he told reporters after the match.
Let’s have a look at stats here: Bangladesh 458 (Mominul 88, Litton 86, Boult 4-85) and 42 for 2 (Shanto 17, Mominul 13*, Mushfiqur 5*) beat New Zealand 328 (Conway 122, Nicholls 75, Shoriful 3-69, Mehidy 3-86) and 169 (Young 69, Taylor 40, Ebadot 6-46, Taskin 3-36) by 8 wickets.
