Frustrated MI Coach Slams Team for Making "Same Mistake Over And Over Again"

About

Shane Bond, the bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians, has lashed out at his team's bowling unit for making the "same mistake over and over again" recently against the Lucknow Super Giants. Mohsin Khan made a strong comeback from a protracted injury absence by holding off Tim David for 11 runs in the final over to give LSG a five-run victory over MI in the IPL on Tuesday.

This came after LSG, led by Chris Jordan's 24 runs in the 18th over, rallied from 123/3 in just 17 overs to reach 177 before the end of their inning. In the final three overs of the LSG inning, MI gave up more than 50 runs.

What they said

"The failure to follow through on the plans we discuss is what aggravates me the most. In the post-game press conference, Bond stated, "We were quite clear with what we wanted to do on this wicket with players like Marcus Stoinis, but where we wanted to bowl, we didn't bowl there consistently enough."

"You must persuade the batsmen to hit where you want them to hit when considering a team strategy. Make things as challenging for them as you can. You don't want them to strike you where they intend to."

"We witnessed that with Stoinis, a talented player. We threw balls for him to hit since we knew he was attempting to hit straight down the ground. His innings made the difference between the two sides in the end. As LSG bounced back from a rough start to score a respectable total, Stoinis displayed his raw power en route to an unbeaten 89 off 47 balls," Shane Bond stated.

Overview

After LSG found themselves reeling at 35 for three in the seventh over, Stoinis smacked eight sixes in his aggressive effort and formed an 82-run partnership with replacement captain Krunal Pandya.

Bond continued, "We've always taken great pride in our preparation, the effort we put in behind the scenes, and how we analyse the game to identify the errors we want to correct. The fact that we keep committing the same error is disheartening. It's disappointing to me, in my opinion."
