IPL 2022 to begin on 26th March: will be played in Mumbai and Pune
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that 55 matches would be held in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium, with the remaining 15 games being held at Pune's Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
On Thursday evening, the BCCI's IPL governing council virtual meeting made the decision to hold the tournament in one state. The members had considered hosting IPL matches in their own home stadiums, but after last years’ experience with the BCCI's belief that traveling facilitated a breach of the safe bio-bubble, they don't want to take any more chances.
"We didn't want to end up in a situation like last season, when we had to cancel the IPL in the middle of the season due to a bubble breach among IPL teams." The event should be held in a single state so that teams may go by bus," a BCCI officially stated.
The Indian Premier League will have 10 teams this season after the Indian board added two new franchises: the Gujarat Titans of Ahmedabad and the Lucknow Super Giants of Lucknow.
