New venue for upcoming IPL 2022

The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to hold the next edition of the IPL 2022 in Maharashtra, according to sources. There’re also rumours that, the BCCI has kept outside conditions in reserve in case the Maharashtra alternative is ruled down.

With the addition of two new teams, IPL 2022 will be an interesting season, as Lucknow and Ahmedabad will begin their adventure in the revenue league from the 15th edition of the event. Before the 15th season of the competition, which will include a mega auction and two new teams, the IPL franchises have already submitted their final retentions.

Earlier, it was stated by BCCI that the IPL 2022 will be held in M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. However, due to the fast spread of new Covid-19 Omicron in the country, the decision was made to shift the whole tournament to Maharashtra.

The governing body is also aiming to hold the premium tournament at 3 locations in Mumbai: Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje, near Pune.

According to number of reports, if the Maharashtra option is shut down, the BCCI has preserved abroad conditions as plan B to host the IPL 2022. This will help to decrease the plane traveling during the competition by holding the entire tournament in Maharasthra at a close venue in Pune.
