Major Squad Changes for Women's Premier League 2025
Mumbai Indians announced the departure of England fast bowler Issy Wong from their squad, ahead of the Women's Premier League 2025 auction. Wong, who took the first-ever WPL hat-trick and contributed significantly to the MI's inaugural season victory, found her appearances reduced following the arrival of Shabnim Ismail.
Simultaneously, Gujarat Giants decided to release their experienced all-rounder Sneh Rana. She led the Giants in the first season during Beth Mooney's absence due to injury. However, the second season saw Rana playing less, only participating in four games and not managing to take any wickets. The Gujarat Giants also let go of overseas players Kathryn Bryce and Lea Tahuhu. They now have the maximum auction purse of INR 4.4 crores.
The Delhi Capitals, runners-up in consecutive seasons, will have a relatively smaller auction purse of INR 2.5 crores. They surprisingly released the experienced Poonam Yadav and Australian batter Laura Harris. Poonam was part of the championship team in its first season but didn’t play in 2024.
Meanwhile, the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru has let go of six players from their squad, including South Africa batter Nadine de Klerk. However, they have acquired Danni Wyatt-Hodge. Now, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru has INR 3.25 available for the upcoming auction.
