India's Spin Squad Ready to Take Charge at T20 World Cup

As the T20 World Cup in the UAE draws closer, India’s strength lies in their star batters, complemented by the spinners. Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav, seasoned professionals, are leading that spin attack. Yadav, the left arm spinner, is particularly optimistic about the spinners' readiness for the games – irrespective of pitch conditions or high pressure matches.

Together with Shreyanka Patil and Asha Sobhana, and the part-time spinners, Radha and Deepti form an impressive spin attack. Radha, during a QUA brand shoot in Delhi, acknowledged the preparations being made by the team. She highlighted an active discussion about pitch conditions and bowling strategies among the spin quartet.

Radha found herself back in India T20I setup after being left out following the T20 World Cup in South Africa in February 2023. Her return, post WPL 2024 during the tour of Bangladesh in April 2024, was marked by an altered outlook towards the game. Her calm demeanor replacing her previously aggressive approach proved to be more effective, as indicated by her tally of 22 wickets in 13 matches since her comeback.

The spinner made it clear that her focus lies not in securing a permanent place in the team, but on maximizing her contribution to the team's wins. A shift in mindset from constant competitiveness to acceptance and expression of oneself has, according to her, been a critical factor in her improved performance. Balanced aggression, as emphasized by the head coach, has been a key lesson for her.

Radha also mentioned the importance of balancing her personal life with her professional career. Recreational activities, hobbies and time spent with family and friends are as crucial as the game itself. However, acknowledging the bigger role of her mental growth in her career, she also notes the observable improvement in her bowling performance as a result of her heightened mindset and attitude.
