Mohammed Shami Delivers Positive Update On Fitness Ahead Of Australia Tour

Mohammed Shami, a 34-year-old pacer, has announced his return to full fitness, expressing that he is now "100%" pain-free after a previous setback in his recovery. Shami, who last represented India in the 2023 ODI World Cup, hopes to stress test his recuperated state by participating in "one or two domestic matches" preceding the Australia Tour.

Shami shared his optimism about his fitness following a successful bowling run-up at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. "It felt great yesterday...I am hopeful of getting back to the circuit soon," said Shami about his recent bowling stint. The paceman was sidelined due to a left Achilles heel injury surfaced post-World Cup last year, with knee issues exacerbating his fitness struggle.

Rohit Sharma, last week mentioning Shami's recovery path, mentioned the difficulty of reaching a verdict on the pacer's inclusion due to his swollen knee issue. Sharma emphasized that taking a half-fit Shami to Australia may not be the best step for the team.

Despite this uncertainty, Shami expressed positivity about the Australia series. He expressed his commitment to getting fit and focusing on nuances for the tour. The fast bowler also expressed his willingness to play a couple of domestic matches if he gets an 8-10 day break prior to the Australia tour after taking the doctors' blessings.

The first Test between Australia and India will take place a month from now, commencing on November 22 in Perth.
