Shami's Injury a Loss for India in New Zealand Test Series and Potential Setback for Upcoming Australia Series
Indian cricket player Mohammed Shami's injury, sidelining him from the India-New Zealand Test series, may present further challenges as India prepares for the upcoming five-Test series in Australia starting in November. Skipper Rohit Sharma announced recently that Shami's recovery had suffered, and expressed a desire for cautiousness in the player's return to international cricket.
Currently, Shami is struggling with a knee swelling that unexpectedly arose during his recovery. Due to this setback, Shami has had to restart his recovery process under the guidance of the doctors and physios at NCA, putting his participation for the Australia series in question. Shami's Achilles injury after the World Cup last year is complicating matters further.
The possibility of Shami not reaching optimal fitness before the series in Australia has also resulted in India carrying several "traveling reserves" for the Test series against New Zealand. Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, and Nitish Reddy are among the players, while all backups are being considered as potential recruits for the Australia series. Rohit is encouraging bench strength and striving for an assortment of fast-bowling options to provide more flexibility for the team.
