Zirkzee's Late Goal Seals Victory for Manchester United

Bought for £36.5 million from Bologna, Zirkzee entered the match off the bench to deliver a gripping debut goal in the 87th minute against Fulham, turning a potential draw into a thrilling 1-0 victory for the Red Devils. His composed celebration, coupled with Ten Hag's joyful reaction, marked a hopeful start to an optimistic new season, especially following last season's disappointing results. 

"It is very good for a striker to come in and score his first goal," Ten Hag said post-match. "The win is very pleasing. To start the season with a win is always important. We are not ready as a squad, as a team, many players are not up to full fitness. We only had ten days with this team training together."

Zirkzee’s winning goal, though crucial, is only one part of the equation for Manchester United’s success this season. During the first hour of the match, United struggled to capitalize on numerous chances, with the club's desperation to score resulting in Harry Maguire being booked for simulation. This struggle to score is worrying, given the club's record as one of the joint-lowest scorers in the top 10 last season. Notwithstanding the issues, Ten Hag remains confident and keen to focus on positives and improvements. 

"We saw it in the friendlies and last week against City. We create enough chances to not have to wait for a late winner. We have to be more composed and kill. Maybe it's the start of the season, players have to come into full speed.” With these words ten Hag set the stage for a promising Premier League season.
