Manchester United's Major Summer Signings

Manchester United confirmed on Tuesday that they have secured the signings of Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich. The deal is reportedly worth a combined £60 million ($76.6m), including add-ons.

Both players signed significant contracts, with De Ligt, the Netherlands centre-back, agreeing to a five-year contract, and Morocco full-back Mazraoui signing on for four years. Both contracts also include an option for an additional year.

The signings of these two players contribute to United's significant summer spending, brought to nearly £140m ($180m), which includes the signing of striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and defender Leny Yorofrom Lille.

Both De Ligt and Mazraoui played in the youth teams of Ajax Amsterdam and later continued their journey under the management of current United manager Erik ten Hag in the first team. De Ligt’s list of victories include the 2018-19 Eredivisie title with Ajax, Serie A in 2019-20 with Juventus, and 2022-23 Bundesliga with Bayern.

Mazraoui, 26, had made 55 appearances across all competitions after joining Bayern from Ajax in 2022 and won both the Bundesliga and the DFL-Supercup in his first season, despite a short period of injury.

These major signings follow Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure to West Ham for a reported £15 million ($19.2m), making space for the new additions on the team. However, with a current injury sidelining Luke Shaw, the players could quickly find themselves on the pitch for the opening matches of the upcoming Premier League season.

In addition to Shaw's absence, French centre-back Yoro will be out for approximately three months as he recovers from foot surgery. Despite these setbacks, Manchester United is geared up to face the new season with the addition of their much-anticipated signings.
