Fazel Atrachali Sets Record in Pro Kabaddi League History
Fazel Atrachali, the Iranian star defender, made history in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) by becoming the first player to record 500 tackle points. This notable achievement occurred during Bengal Warriorz's 32-32 standoff against Puneri Paltan on Tuesday. Remarkably, Fazel, renowned as PKL's best defender and overseas player, accomplished this feat in the first half of the match by tackling Mohit Goyat.
Fazel’s contributions extend beyond his defensive prowess; he has also proven to be an exceptional leader, winning two titles and reaching the finals twice as captain. Fazel debuted in PKL’s second season with U Mumba, where he won his inaugural title. He later moved to Patna Pirates in season 4 and secured another title win. Despite switching teams several times, from Gujarat Giants to Puneri Paltan, Fazel has consistently achieved high standards and led his teams to multiple finals.
In a pre-final interview with ESPN in December 2022, Fazel shared that his leadership secret was backing his team members unwaveringly, irrespective of the circumstances - a trait that has been consistently evident throughout his journey with five different teams in the competition.
Beyond his leadership, Fazel's defensive skills are unparalleled. As a left-corner defender, he has established himself among the league's most coveted players. His remarkable feat of 500 tackle points in 173 PKL games, averaging nearly three tackle points per match, affirms his standing and makes an undeniable case for him as PKL's best player to date.
