Shubman Gill on a Promising IPL 2023 Season: "My Hard Work Is Going In..."

About

Shubman Gill, a batter with the Gujarat Titans and holder of an orange cap for the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023, believes his hard work is paying off. With 890 runs in 17 games, a strike rate of 157.80, and an average of 59.33, Gill finished the IPL 2023 season. Throughout the season, he has clarified what it means to be consistent. The 23-year-old batsman has three hundreds and four half-centuries to his credit. He received recognition for his dedication and perseverance by being named the IPL's Most Valuable Player in 2023.

What he said

"It means a lot to know that my efforts are paying off. The championship game was incredible, but we were unable to prevail. Starting strong is crucial, and I did so. I received 40s and 50s early on, and by the end of the competition, I had turned them into large ones. I put in a lot of practice, modified my approach for the death, and it worked well (on his six-hitting). The SRH one was about control, while the MI one was about knowing which bowlers to target. All the hundreds were very different from one another, I picked the proper bowlers and managed the situation well," Gill stated after the game.

Overview

With regard to the game itself, GT got off to a strong start thanks to a 67-run partnership between Shubman Gill (39 in 20 balls) and Wriddhiman Saha. Then Saha and Sai Sudarshan engaged in a 64-run stand.

Rain caused a postponement of the game. CSK was given a revised goal of 171 runs in 15 overs after play resumed. With a 74-run stand for the first wicket, openers Devon Conway (47 in 25 balls) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (26 in 16 balls) set the stage. Ajinkya Rahane scored a fast 27 in 13 balls, while Ambati Rayadu scored 19 in 8 balls, but Mohit Sharma's tight bowling helped GT mount a comeback. Dhoni was brought out for a golden duck as well.
