Ponting offers Rohit Sharma and Dravid some unconventional advice in light of the World T20 final: "Gill can open, Rahul can perhaps"
About
India has not yet advanced to the World Test Championship game. India would have been the first team to have qualified for the summit match had they defeated Australia in Indore's third Test in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
However, Australia clinched their spot in the tournament with a decisive nine-wicket victory, leaving India's chances on thin ice. Ricky Ponting, a former player for Australia, is optimistic that the Rohit Sharma-led team can go to the World T20 final, and in light of the matchup with Australia, he has suggested an unconventional change to the batting order.
What they said
"With someone like KL Rahul having left this side and Shubman Gill having come in, both these players have played a little bit of Test match cricket, and you could conceivably have both of those men in the same team," Ponting said. Because he has previously played cricket in those (England) conditions, although at the top of the order, perhaps Shubman could start at the top and KL could possibly slide down into the middle order.
"But one thing about the UK that we do know is that the ball swings throughout the day for extended periods of time. The ball tends to swing throughout an inning when the overhead circumstances are favourable," Ponting said.
Overview
Ponting believes that the squad should think about changing their lineup for the final since he is aware that the WTC final conditions in England will be very different from the ones the Indian team is dealing with at home.
After an extended dry spell by the opener, India benched KL Rahul for the fourth Test match. In his place, Shubman Gill played. Ponting believes that Gill and Rahul should both be in the lineup for the WTC final in June at the Oval, according to the ICC Review.
