Will India have a new team after the 2022 T20 World Cup? A bold claim is made by Ravi Shastri.

About

The Indian cricket squad features a few new players on the list for the 2022 T20 World Cup compared to the 2021 T20 World Cup. The squad is expected to end the agonising wait for the title of world champions with players like Dinesh Karthik, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel, etc. stepping up. Ravi Shastri, a former India head coach, believes his country will have a "new team" following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in Australia, even if there are still a number of players who have the talent to remain at the top for years to come.

What they said

"Since I've been a part of the system for the past six or seven years—first as a coach and now as an observer—I believe this is the best T20 cricket lineup India has ever fielded. After this World Cup, I envision a new team for India," Ravi Shastri was reported by ICC as stating.

"When they take the field (in the first game) against Pakistan, they must put in a lot of effort and provide their best. If you don't save those 15-20 runs, you'll need to score an additional 15-20 runs every time you go to bat, which might be the difference between success and failure," Shastri said.

Overview

In the previous T20 World Cup, Shastri's team, India, was unable to get past the group stage. After the incident, Shastri resigned as the team's head coach, making room for Rahul Dravid to accept the position. India has adopted a new strategy for the shortest format under Dravid, although there are still some issues to be resolved.

Shastri used Sri Lanka as an example to emphasise the value of strong fielding in major competitions. "They field wildly for teams like Australia, England, and South Africa. Take a look at Sri Lanka's fielding performance throughout the Asia Cup. They defeated Pakistan in a close game by fielding well," Shastri asserted.
