Perth Scorchers won the BBL 2021-2022

What a game! Perth the winners all over again!

The Perth Scorchers won a record fourth BBL title and exacted revenge on the Sydney Sixers with a crushing 79-run victory at the Marvel Stadium, with Laurie Evans smashing 76 under duress and fast Andrew Tye taking three wickets.

Scorchers were in severe trouble at 4 for 25 after being put in in a rematch of last season's championship but an audacious century partnership between Evans and skipper Ashton Turner propelled the hot favourites to 6 for 171.

Their star-studded onslaught then proved unstoppable, putting an end to the Sixers' record third-straight title drive. After breaking the tie for most titles with their arch-rival, the Scorchers may have achieved their sweetest victory after being on the road for 50 days owing to Western Australia's restricted borders.

Mitchell Marsh, who had a hamstring injury, battled early on and didn't get off to a good start until his ninth delivery. Scorchers looked to be melting on the large stage, thus he didn't stay long.

Rather than rebuilding, Evans and Turner mounted a counter-offensive, scoring 33 runs off 13 balls in the seventh over to shift the tide. Evans, an English immigrant, had a quiet maiden BBL season, but his aggressive hitting made him a vital part of the Scorchers' middle order. He had one of his greatest innings of the season, attacking Steve O'Keefe boldly while being ably backed by Turner.

Before Turner fell soon after, the red-hot duo each recorded half-centuries with sixes. It didn't detract from Evans' momentum, as he smashed three spectacular cover drives to help Scorchers reach a score that seemed insurmountable after four overs.

Some stats to look into: Perth Scorchers 6 for 171 (Evans 76*, Turner 54, Lyon 2-24, O'Keefe 2-43) beat Sydney Sixers 92 (Hughes 42, Tye 3-15, Richardson 2-20) by 79 runs
