Match Review
On Wednesday, August 17, at the Lord's, London, South Africa and England played in the 1st Test, day 1 match of the South Africa tour of England, 2022.
After lunch, only six overs were thrown, during which England's keeper Ben Foakes was also lost after Nortje's inside edge caused his middle stump to be knocked back. What a great start they have had to this Test match, it has been South Africa's day! With this four-pronged seam attack, they appear to cover all the bases in terms of pace, swing, left-arm seam, and bounce.
The fact that England lost both of its openers to catches behind the wicket shows how much the conditions aided their game plan. Then a big inswinger from Jansen trapped Joe Root. Although Bairstow and Stokes failed when they tried to play aggressively, I don't think they'll change their strategy too much moving forward.
Brief Score
England have scored 116 for 6 in 32 overs (Alex Lees 5, Zak Crawley 9, Ollie Pope 61, Joe Root 8, Jonny Bairstow 0, Ben Stokes 20, Ben Foakes (wk) 6, Stuart Broad 0, Extras 7)
