IPL: who should target Mumbai Indians in 2023 auction?

This IPL was not going well for Mumbai Indians until the game on 30th April, when MI managed to secure their first win against Rajasthan Royals and beat them by 5 wickets at DY Patil Stadium. After that there was another victory of theirs on May 6, when they met Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne Stadium, and won by 5 runs.

However, this year Mumbai Indians would still need a little help in their batting line…So, will be things different if they choose these 3 players in next IPL, 2023 auction? Welcome to discussion below.

MI can target three specific players in the IPL 2023 auction:

Sam Curran

Sam Curran had to withdraw from the IPL 2021 season due to a back ailment. The all-rounder suffered a stress fracture while playing for CSK in the second part of IPL 2021. Sam is back playing first-class cricket in England now that his injury has healed completely. The cricketer voiced his desire to play in the IPL 2022 in the early days.

Perhaps this 23-year-old will create a bidding battle among numerous teams in the next IPL auction. The yellow army, his previous franchise, will also be desperate to bring him home. In the case of MI, however, Sam Curran will be an ideal replacement for Daniel Sams' ineffective services.

This Englishman will practically show himself as a real T20 all-rounder in the blue and gold dugout. The southpaw will be deployed in the lower middle order to not only extend the innings but also to provide extra support to Kieron Pollard and Tim David.

Sam will also be a valuable four-over seamer who might be especially useful on the power play. Furthermore, if he performs well as the team's third pacer, MI may be able to field an overseas attacking spinner in the main XI. Overall, as an available option, Sam Curran has the potential to remedy Mumbai's batting and bowling problems.

Adam Zampa

MI management has yet again failed to purchase quality spin bowling at the big auction. Murugan Ashwin appears to be their spin department's backbone so far. M Ashwin's performance as a front-line spinner has also been adequate (6 wickets in 6 games). While Yuzi Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi have helped their clubs win matches, MI's spin bowling has let them down.

In this event, the franchise might consider signing Adam Zampa at the next auction. In terms of his purchase worth, the Australian will be offered at a reasonable price. Also, because most teams have settled on their spin artillery, MI might be able to get him for his base pricing.

Apart from his signing, MI may have difficulty casting him in the starting XI. Because players like Archer, Pollard, and possibly Tim David will be guaranteed overseas, the management will use Zampa as a seamer. However, the 30-year-old may be used precisely, as CSK did with Imran Tahir.

Overall, if the organization signs a player like Sam Curran, even Zampa may find himself in the starting lineup. Otherwise, the leg-spinner might make an exclusive entry into the team, especially on slow or sluggish tracks. Overall, as an attacking leg-break bowler, Zampa will benefit from Rohit's excellent captaincy abilities.

Kane Richardson

Mumbai has concerns with their overseas pacers in addition to their spin bowling problems. The franchise has yet to find a suitable replacement for Jofra Archer. Even people like Tymal Mills, who were seen to be deserving, haven't been helpful. Also, some pacers, like as Riley Meredith, do not portray a rosy picture. That's why Kane Richardson's acquisition might be extremely useful.

To begin with, the Australian spearhead could provide ample support for Jofra Archer's outstanding bowling. Alternatively, the 31-year-old can join as a second overseas seamer. On occasion, MI has enjoyed hunting with two proper foreign seamers, and Richardson can resurrect their old plan.

However, MI can look into other international names such as Tom Curran, Chris Woakes, and even Kyle Jamieson. However, the names listed above are either unavailable or untrustworthy. When it comes to T20 cricket, this Australian cricketer has a superior grip as an individual.

Richardson can have a specific role in what DJ Bravo gives CSK while wearing the MI jersey. Because the pacer can bowl in the middle and death overs with his variations, Archer and Bumrah will be able to hunt together in the power play. Overall, Richardson's signing might be highly beneficial to the blue and gold army.
