IPL 2022, MATCH 22: RESULTS
It finally happened! The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their first match in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Tuesday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 23 runs. Shivam Dube's 95* and Robin Uthappa's 88 helped CSK post a mammoth total of 216/4 before Maheesh Theekshana's brilliant four-wicket haul enabled CSK secure their first win of the season. RCB lost an early wicket of skipper Faf du Plessis, who was caught in the deep by Maheesh Theekshana, as they chased a massive mark of 217.
Inside the powerplay, CSK bowlers took two more wickets. While Mukesh Chaudhary's bowling caught Virat Kohli in the deep, Theekshana trapped Anuj Rawat LBW. Before Jadeja smashed a delivery into the stumps to finish Glenn Maxwell's innings, the right-handed hitter scored 26 runs in 11 deliveries. RCB's rescue was anchored by Suyash Prabhudessai and Shahbaz Ahmed, who stitched a magnificent fifty partnership. With 8 overs to go, RCB were 110-4. Prabhudessai performed the majority of the hitting.
After Prabhudessai was bowled in the 13th over, Theekshana got his third wicket of the innings, bringing the partnership to an end. RCB needed 86 runs from the last six overs. While Dinesh Karthik was given a reprieve, Theekshana bowled Shahbaz Ahmed for his fourth wicket. In the 16th over, CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets. While Hasaranga was caught in the deep, Rayudu caught Akash Deep within the circle with a fantastic diving catch. As RCB needed 48 runs from the final three overs, Dinesh Karthik smashed 23 runs off the 17th, including two sixes and a four.
CSK successfully defended the total when Jadeja took a brilliant catch in the deep to end a spectacular cameo from Dinesh Karthik. CSK, who were given the opportunity to bat first, had remained unaltered from the previous game. Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed three fours from the top, but the RCB bowlers got off to a good start with the new ball. Gaikwad was caught LBW by Josh Hazlewood, and he was dismissed. CSK were 35-1 at the end of the powerplay after Robin Uthappa blasted the opening six runs of the innings.
Suyash Prabhudessai's superb fielding attempt at backward point, which ran out Moeen Ali for 3, cost CSK their second wicket. The next batter, Shivam Dube, came out swinging, hitting a four and a six. With 10 overs remaining, CSK were averaging 6 runs per over. After Dube added a four and a six to the tally, Hasaranga bowled the next over and allowed 13 runs. As CSK switched gears, Uthappa smashed three sixes in a single over against Maxwell's bowling. The right-handed batter then hit a four and a six to reach his half-century mark.
CSK were 145-2 with four overs to play when Dube reached his half-century with a four against Akash Deep, while the hundred partnership was up for the third wicket. Against Siraj, who bowled the 17th over, Uthappa smashed two sixes and a four. CSK kept the pyrotechnics going as Akash Deep bowled the 18th over for 24 runs. In the penultimate over, Hasaranga took two wickets on consecutive deliveries to eliminate Uthappa and CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja. As CSK reached a dominant total of 216-4 in the first innings, Dube concluded the innings with two huge sixes in the penultimate over and remained unbeaten on 95.
