Devon Conway Bolsters New Zealand in Opening Session against India in Second Test
The second Test between India and New Zealand kicked-off in Pune, with New Zealand winning the toss and choosing to bat first. The visitors had a steady start in the opening session, reaching 92 for 2 at Lunch, thanks to Devon Conway's unbeaten 47. The only forced change for the Kiwis was Matt Henry sitting out due to a glute niggle, with Mitchell Santner replacing him.
In contrast, India made three swaps, bringing in Washington Sundar, Shubman Gill, and Akash Deep in place of Kuldeep Yadav, KL Rahul, and Mohammed Siraj.
Although spin was introduced early, New Zealand managed to bag some early boundaries. Akash Deep was hit for three boundaries in his first two overs. The spinners managed to beat the outside edge of the batters on numerous occasions, but appeals were scarce.
Conway and Will Young, the left-right batting combination, took advantage of the high pace and worked the ball around the gaps, keeping the scoreboard moving. Young departed after a controversial glove incident, while Rachin Ravindra survived an LBW scare.
Brief Scores: New Zealand 92/2 (Devon Conway 47*; R Ashwin 2-33) vs India.
