ISL 2024-25 Matchweek 2: Bengaluru's Convincing Win Over Hyderabad
Bengaluru FC showcased a commanding performance against Hyderabad FC during the second matchweek of ISL 2024-25, pocketing a 3-0 victory at the Kanteerava Stadium. With an early goal from Rahul Bheke and a concluding brace by Sunil Chhetri, Bengaluru marked their second victory this season, building on their initial win over East Bengal. Despite a commendable performance by a full domestic squad from Hyderabad, Bengaluru secured a hard-battled triumph.
The Bengaluru line-up witnessed a couple of changes with Gerard Zaragoza replacing Chhetri and Aleksandar Jovanovic with Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Chinglensana Singh. On the other hand, Hyderabad gave club debuts to six players, including ex-Bengaluru athletes Lenny Rodrigues and Parag Shrivas.
Hyderabad encountered early disappointment when Bheke, Bengaluru's temporary captain, manoeuvred a corner from Vinith Venkatesh into an easy goal within the first five minutes. Hyderabad's chances for an equalizer soon after fizzled out when Devendra Murgaonkar, despite a terrific cross from Parag, misfired his close-range shot.
Throughout the second half, Bengaluru maintained a firm control over the game. They widened the score difference in the final ten minutes when Chhetri skillfully converted a penalty, drawing the first goal of the season to his name. Chhetri further cemented Bengaluru's victory in the extra time with a successful header, leveling him with Bart Ogbeche in the ISL's top-scorers list. And so, the match ended on a high note for Bengaluru FC, maintaining their winning streak in the tournament.
