Sunil Chhetri's Motivated Return to the ISL

Seasoned footballer Sunil Chhetri strides into the new Indian Super League (ISL) season, having enjoyed an off-season break for the first time in over two decades. Bearing the 'former India player' tag doesn't seem to bother Chhetri, India's international record goal-scorer, as he anticipates not retiring from football in the near future.

Chhetri's philosophy revolves around the belief that he will walk away the moment he feels he has nothing left to contribute. However, with a fit physique, an indomitable spirit, and an unending urge to contribute, Chhetri is all set to continue his football stories with Bengaluru FC.

Taking a short break enabled him to spend valuable time with his one-year-old. Now refreshed, Chhetri is on a mission to fulfill unfinished agendas with Bengaluru FC. The team is preparing to launch their ISL campaign on Saturday against East Bengal at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. The last season was devastating for both Chhetri and the team. But strength of spirit and determination to prove their mettle provides the motivation needed to resurrect their performance.

Chhetri believes that the club's followers deserve to see another title win, and they are working hard to make this season memorable. With awareness that his football days are counting down, Chhetri is more committed than ever to make the most out of what's left.

The objective this time is not only to push oneself to the limits but also to push others. The intention in the Durand Cup was self-assessment and the results were optimistic, hinting towards a time of resurgence. Chhetri has maintained his position among the top players in Bengaluru during both pre-season and technical practices.

Inculcating significant changes, Bengaluru FC is determined to erase painful memories of their worst-ever ISL season, intending to use the changes happening at the club as a stepping stone.

The goal is to win an ISL title after a gap of five years, a motivation strong enough to maintain high spirits within the club. Assorted recruitment over the summer could prove to be beneficial, as Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Alberto Noguera and Spaniard Edgar Mendez bring their expertise onboard. Chhetri expresses enthusiasm for their addition to the squad, which already comprises Australian winger Ryan Williams and young Sivasakthi Narayanan.
