Early Implications of the New Premier League Season

While the Premier League season has kicked off, it's important not to jump to conclusions. Aston Villa, despite a 5-1 defeat at Newcastle United on the opening day last season, finished in fourth place and secured a spot in the Champions League. Hence it would be too early to pass judgments based on the first matches of this season. 

The top four teams of the previous year recorded wins in their opening matches. Defending champions Manchester City put up a clinical performance against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, even amidst the upcoming hearing of 115 financial charges and uncertainties regarding coach Pep Guardiola's future. City is still widely predicted to win the league title, bolstered by impressive performances from their new signing, Savinho.

Chelsea, on the other hand, encountered difficulties in finding a decent goalkeeper from a roster of eight. Manager Enzo Maresca is attempting to inculcate his methodical style in the 43 players, which may take time as demonstrated in the opening match.

Liverpool, under the guidance of new coach Arne Slot, showed promising signs both during preseason and in half of the match at Ipswich Town. Slot has already demonstrated his ruthlessness by substituting young defender Jarell Quansah at half-time in favour of Ibrahima Konate. Liverpool's depth in squad and the fresh impetus provided by Slot might see them closing in on Manchester City and Arsenal this season.

Arsenal secured a routine win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, not altering any pre-season speculations with the absence of a newly signed striker. Mikel Merino is expected to be acquired from Real Sociedad to bulk up the midfield.

Manchester United's most significant move so far has been to extend Bruno Fernandes's contract, indicating changing times at Old Trafford. This shift was evident in their opening match against Fulham, which they managed to win, a result not likely last season.
