Sri Lanka crumbled under the pressure of India's unrelenting onslaught, losing 16 wickets in 67 overs to lose by an innings and 222 runs in three days. Jadeja was named Player of the Match for the third time in a row in the Mohali Test, falling one wicket shy of being the first player to score 150 runs in a Test innings and take 10 wickets in the same match.

The longest stand put up by Sri Lanka was a 17-over partnership between Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva in the second innings, followed by the 15 overs it took India to take the first wicket in the morning. Rohit Sharma was encouraged to enforce the follow-on after six wickets fell for 13 runs in 43 deliveries.
