India vs West Indies, 1st ODI: India won by 6 wickets
Wow, what a game! Men in Blue nailed it! India cruised to a six-wicket victory in the series opener, which lasted just 71.5 overs on a field with turn and varying pace, thanks to the spinners' seven wickets. It was the first time India's spinners have taken more than five wickets in an ODI since January 2019, but India will also be pleased that their fast bowlers made an impact in limiting West Indies to 176 runs.
The damage was started by the returning Washington Sundar, and Yuzvendra Chahal broke the back of the batting with four wickets, although Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bowled hostile periods on both sides. India's 46 dot balls in the powerplay were the most they've bowled since the 2019 World Cup, owing in part to Siraj's 5-2-13-1 opening stint. In his later spells, Krishna took two wickets.
India went into their 1000th ODI with a new-look attack. With the exception of the Sri Lanka trip, this was the first time India have played an ODI without Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Deepak Chahar in the XI since December 2020. Instead, India chose hard-hitting bowlers, like England has done in limited-overs cricket to establish a point of difference. Outside of the spinners taking advantage of a favorable surface, Siraj and Krishna provided exactly what India had hoped for.
Let’ see some stats here: India 178 for 4 (Rohit 60, Suryakumar 34, Joseph 2-45) beat West Indies 176 (Holder 57, Chahal 4-49, Washington 3-30) by six wickets
