Proteas won by 4 runs, 3rd ODI
South Africa completed an ODI series whitewash over India with a four-run victory on Sunday, 23rd January, 2022.
South Africa had the worst start possible after being put to bat, losing opener Janneman Malan (1) to one of India's four changes, Deepak Chahar. As the Proteas were 8/1, the Indian bowler swung the ball late to reach the edge.
Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma bowled superbly, but the latter was dismissed by a sharp piece of work from KL Rahul, as the hosts were reduced to 34/2 after seven overs.
While taking the risk against Indian pacers, the two worked the Indian spinners – Jayant Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal – over. After five overs, Prasidh Krishna, who had found his way into the playing XI, was on the losing end of things, a moment in which India utterly lost their way in the third ODI.
Despite Chahar’s heroics, Quinton de Kock helped the Proteas to seal the victory and become the absolute winners in ODI series.
India fought hard for 3rd ODI, but, unfortunately, it wasn’t hard enough, as we had to witness Proteas’ victory all over again.
Here are the stats to look at: South Africa 287 (de Kock 124, van der Dussen 52, Prasidh 3-59) beat India 283 (Kohli 65, Dhawan 61, Chahar 54, Phehlukwayo 3-40, Ngidi 3-58) by four runs
