Former India selector on Virat Kohli's participation in the ODI World Cup

About

The likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are currently on rest in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, will play in the ODI series after sitting out the T20I series before it. The Rohit Sharma-led team will play a total of 35 ODI matches in 2023 in order to get ready for the forthcoming ODI World Cup, which will be held on home soil later this year.

Team India has some positives to take from the 2022 T20 World Cup, including Virat Kohli's impressive comeback. With a total of 296 runs in six games, the star batter, who was going through a slump, won the competition with the highest run total.

What they said

Former Indian batter Krishnamachari Srikkanth said that Virat Kohli will be acting as an "anchor" and assisting young players like Ishan Kishan to succeed in the team as they prepare for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

"What role clarity must we provide for them? Take Ishan Kishan as an example; see his striking technique; he recently even scored a double century. Don't restrict these players; just urge them to go play your game outside. First and foremost, you require two or three more players that aren't scared to express themselves, much like Ishan Kishan. In this lineup, all-rounders are needed for both the batting and bowling positions," according to Srikkanth, speaking to Star Sports.

Overview

Ishan Kishan's double century against Bangladesh in the third and final ODI in December was the fastest in ODI ever, taking just 126 balls. After posting a score of 409/8 in 50 overs, Team India went on to win the match by 227 runs.

In the current T20I series against Sri Lanka, Team India won the first game by two runs but lost the second game by sixteen runs after failing to reach the 207-run mark. On Saturday in Rajkot, there will be the third and final T20I game. All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been guiding Team India in the T20I series in Rohit Sharma's absence.
