     On Monday, December 26, at the National Stadium, Karachi, Pakistan and New Zealand played in the 1st Test, day 1 match of the New Zealand tour of Pakistan, 2022-23.

     Babar Azam's unbroken 161 and Sarfaraz Ahmed's valiant 86 helped Pakistan reach 317/5 at stumps on the first day of the first Test against New Zealand in Karachi. Pakistan recovered from the initial blows thanks to Babar Azam's ninth Test century.  

     Babar, the captain of Pakistan, had earlier chosen to bat against New Zealand after winning the toss. Sarfaraz Ahmed has taken Mohammad Rizwan's place in the starting XI, according to Babar, who also revealed that Mir Hamza, who had been joined to the squad before the first Test, is making his return to the Test team after making his debut in 2018.
