On Monday, November 21, at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, England and Iran played in the 2nd match of the FIFA World Cup, 2022.
With a commanding 6-2 victory over Iran in the opening Group B match, England officially announced their participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. After Luke Shaw crossed the ball in the opening period, Jude Bellingham headed the ball past Hossein Hosseini, the replacement goalie. Raheem Sterling connected on a cross from Harry Kane on the volley to make it 3-0 as England went into halftime with a three-goal lead.
Bukayo Saka then doubled England's lead with a fierce strike from inside the D. Later, Saka attempted to finish his hat trick for England to increase their lead, but Mehdi Taremi quickly assisted Iran in getting on the board. As a substitute, Marcus Rashford scored England's fifth goal, and Jack Grealish added a simple tap-in to make it 6-1. Iran was then given a late penalty, which Taremi converted with ease.
