Guptill became the T20Is' leading scorer

Guptill overtook Rohit, who earlier this year broke the record for most runs scored in T20Is (3,379), over the course of his innings. Guptill currently leads the India captain by 20 runs with 3,399 in T20Is.

About

During the opening match against Scotland, Martin Guptill of New Zealand surpassed Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, to become the player with the most runs scored in T20 internationals. The 35-year-old talisman's 31-ball 40 on Wednesday helped him reach the milestone.

Scores

As the Black Caps produced 225/5 batting first, Guptill's opening partner Finn Allen also scored a stroke-filled first century (101 off 56 balls) in the shortest format.

Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner each claimed 4/28 in response, limiting the hosts to 157/8.

In addition to Rohit, Guptill is closely followed on the list by former India captain Virat Kohli (3,308), Irish ODI captain Paul Stirling (2,894), and Australian captain Aaron Finch, who is ranked fifth with 2,855 runs.

Overview

When Kohli accomplished the extraordinary record during the second Twenty20 International against England in Ahmedabad in 2021, he surpassed Brendon McCullum, another legendary New Zealander and former captain, who had actually been the first batter to hit the 2000-run mark.

Guptill is currently playing for the Blackcaps in two T20Is and one ODI in Scotland. New Zealand will end their UK tour with two T20Is in the Netherlands after playing Ireland in a three-T20I and as many ODI series.

Sharma, on the other hand, is now in the Caribbean with the Indian side and will captain the team of blue in the five-match T20I series against the West Indies that begins on Friday, July 29. India dominated the hosts 3-0 in the ODI series and cruised to victory in the T20Is after sweeping both white ball tournaments in England by scores of 2-1.
