Novak Djokovic slips to third as Daniil Medvedev tops ATP rankings

On Monday, 13 June 2022, Daniil Medvedev topped the ATP rankings ahead of Alexander Zverev, with Novak Djokovic breaking out of the top two for the first time in four years.
The 26-year-old Russian, Daniil Medvedev, who was defeated by Tim van Rijthoven in the final at Hertogenbosch on Sunday, temporarily held the top rank for two weeks in late February and early March.

Although Djokovic lost in the quarterfinals of the French Open, where he was the defending champion, Medvedev had a chance to regain his title.

Players Ranking Overview

Rafael Nadal, who defeated the Serb at Roland Garros and won the tournament for the 14th time, is still in fourth place, just 245 points behind his legendary rival.

Caspar Roode, who was defeated in the Paris final by Rafael Nadal, has moved up to fifth in the world, one place ahead of Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Following his trip to the final in Stuttgart over the weekend, former world number one Andy Murray moved up 21 places to 48th, while Medvedev's winner Van Rijthoven jumped 99 places from 205 to 106.

This week, Alexander Zverev climbed to No. 2 for the first time in his career. The German, on the other hand, will be out of commission for the foreseeable future. During his semi-final match against Rafael Nadal at the French Open, Zverev suffered an injury.

Nadal is still ranked No. 4 in the world. Casper Ruud, the runner-up in Paris, has climbed to No. 5 in the ATP rankings this week, a new career high for the Norwegian. Stefanos Tsitsipas has dropped to sixth place.

Carlos Alcaraz (No. 7), Andrey Rublev (No. 8), Felix Auger-Aliassime (No. 9) and Matteo Berrettini (No. 10) all maintained their positions from the previous week.

Highlight

Zverev climbs to number two for the first time since November 2017 after spending 56 weeks at number three. On the other hand, the German is set to miss the rest of the season after tearing a ligament in his right ankle in the semi-final match. Nadal at the French Open.

Djokovic's hold on the top spot had already been eroded by the Covid restrictions from the Australian Open earlier this year, where he was also the reigning champion. This is the first time since October 2018 that Djokovic is not in the top two.
