25th match, SRH vs KKR, IPL 2022: Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 7 wickets
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won their third consecutive match in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Friday at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 7 wickets. Rahul Tripathi's (71) and Aiden Markram's (68*) outstanding innings boosted SRH's brilliant chase, which resulted in their third win in a row. SRH lost Abhishek Sharma in the second over while chasing 176, after the left-handed batter sliced on to the stumps against Cummins. Before being bowled by Andre Russell, Kane Williamson smashed three boundaries. KKR were 46-2 at the end of the powerplay.
Rahul Tripathi, the new hitter, got off to a fast start, hitting four fours and two sixes. With his impeccable timing, the right-handed batter added two more sixes to the total. Markram joined the celebration and hit Chakaravarthy with a four followed by a six. After 10 overs, SRH were 95-2 and Tripathi had reached his half-century off just 21 deliveries. As the runs continued to pour from the bat for SRH, the fifty partnership was up for the third wicket. SRH needed 49 runs off the last six overs as Markram smashed three fours in a succession.
Tripathi's at-bat came to an end as he was caught at long-on by the right-handed batter. Markram continued his batting exploits and reached his half-century in the 16th over, scoring 13 runs. The right-handed batter smashed one four and two sixes to put the game out of reach. Earlier, KKR, who were assigned to bat first, made three changes to their lineup: Aaron Finch, Aman Khan, and Sheldon Jackson. Finch was caught behind off Marco Jansen's bowling, giving SRH an early wicket. Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine were both dismissed by Natarajan in the same over. Narine was caught within the circle while Venkatesh Iyer was bowled.
With skipper Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana at the crease, KKR were 38-3 at the end of the powerplay. After hitting a four each in the ninth over, Rana and Iyer relieved KKR's pressure and created a steady partnership for the fourth wicket. However, as KKR were 70-4 at the midway stage, the KKR captain was castled by an Umran Malik yorker. To keep the scoring rate high, Rana hit two sixes and a four. Sheldon Jackson, the new batter, hit his first six of the innings in the 13th over, but was caught on the next pitch. With a maximum, Andre Russell signalled his presence, while Rana reached his half-century in the 15th over.
Umran Malik bowled a magnificent 16th over against Russell, allowing only two runs to be scored. Russell hit two fours and a six in the 17th over, allowing 16 runs to be scored. In the next two overs, SRH took two wickets, dismissing Rana and Cummins. As KKR reached 175/8 in the first innings, Andre Russell finished with two sixes and a four.
