New Zealand Takes Control in Second Test Against India
Mitchell Santner spearheaded the crushing of a robust Indian batting line-up as New Zealand seized total command of the second Test on the second day in Pune. Although the pitch did cause some unexpected turn of events, India might regret some of the shots they played. They suffered six wickets loss in the session, wrapping up with a score of 107/7 at Lunch.
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal commenced the morning with an aggressive approach, dealing in boundaries. Unexpectedly, Gill was out lbw by Santner, starting a downfall. Virat Kohli was completely taken aback by a low full-toss from Santner, which left him bowled and shocked the Pune audience. Rishabh Pant started strongly, hitting a boundary off his second ball while Jaiswal was caught in slips on the other end.
From this point on, every delivery became an event due to the turn and bounce up for grabs. However, it was a delivery from Glenn Phillips lacking bounce that got Pant out, with a low shot wrecking the stumps. India's extensive batting line-up didn't help as they kept losing wickets. Sarfaraz Khan miscued one off Santner and the left-arm spinner also got rid of R Ashwin swiftly.
Just minutes before lunch, Washington Sundar survived an lbw shout, now left with a significant task of rebuilding along with Ravindra Jadeja, with India still lagging by 152 runs.
Brief scores: India 107/7 (Shubman Gill 30; Mitchell Santner 4/36, Glenn Phillips 2/26) lag behind by 152 runs against New Zealand's 259.
