Rishabh Pant's Test Return; India Squad for Bangladesh Series Announced

Rishabh Pant has been recalled to the Indian Test cricket team for the first fixture of a two-match home series against Bangladesh, commencing on September 19 in Chennai. This marks Pant's return to the red-ball side for the first time since his terrible accident in December 2022. After a lengthy and challenging rehabilitation process, Pant displayed a strong performance in the IPL and played in the successful T20 World Cup campaign, paving his way back to the Test squad.

The Indian team for the first Test also includes Dhruv Jurel as another wicketkeeper. The squad consists of Rohit Sharma (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, and Yash Dayal.

Akash Deep, who debuted in the Test series against England earlier this year, secured his position as the third pacer alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, following an impressive performance for India A. Additionally, uncapped left-arm fast bowler Yash Dayal is making his debut in the 16-member squad. KL Rahul, who missed a part of the previous series against England due to an injury, is also back in the squad.

Post the series opener in Chennai, both teams will compete in Kanpur for the second fixture, starting from September 27. This is to be followed by three T20Is from October 6 to 12.
