IPL 2025 Player Auction to Clash with Opening India-Australia Test

The IPL 2025 Player Auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25, marking the second successive year of the event being held overseas. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed this  information, also revealing that a total of 1574 players have registered for the event.

Among the registered players, the majority are Indian with 1165 registrations, and 409 players making up the overseas registration pool. These international players include 30 participants from Associate nations, with South Africa and Australia leading the count with 91 and 76 registrations respectively.

The auction's schedule has raised some eyebrows as it clashes with the opening Test of India's tour of Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Test in Perth begins on November 22, causing an overlap with the third and fourth days of the Test match.

After player retentions were confirmed on October 31, 204 slots are available to be filled during the auction across the ten teams. Each franchise can have a maximum of 25 players in their squad. Punjab Kings will enter the auction with the most funds available, having retained only two uncapped players and therefore possessing the biggest purse of 110.5 Cr. Conversely, the Rajasthan Royals will have the smallest purse (41 Cr), having chosen to retain six players, five of which are capped.
