Kane Williamson to Miss Third India Test for Injury Rehabilitation
In an announcement by New Zealand Cricket on Tuesday, Kane Williamson is set to miss the third Test against India, to be played in Mumbai. Williamson, who already did not participate in the first two Tests of the series, will not travel to India for the last Test, in order to be fully fit for the upcoming home series against England, which begins on November 28.
His absence is part of a cautious approach towards continuing his groin injury rehabilitation. Gary Stead, New Zealand's head coach, said, "Kane continues to show good signs, but isn't quite ready to jump on a plane and join us. While things are looking promising, we think the best course of action is for him to stay in New Zealand and focus on the final part of his rehabilitation so he'll be good to go for England."
With the England series still a month away, the cautious approach will ensure readiness for the first Test in Christchurch. New Zealand, who have already clinched victory in the first two Tests of the ongoing series against India, will aim to complete a cleansweep to increase their chances of qualifying for the final of the World Test championship. The third Test kicks off in Mumbai on Friday.
