Speculations on KL Rahul's Future in Lucknow Super Giants
Sanjiv Goenka respects KL Rahul but would not clarify if the wicketkeeper batter will be kept on for the forthcoming three seasons. "As for me, I see him as part of my family. He knows that too," Goenka revealed to Cricbuzz in an exclusive conversation on Wednesday.
Rahul was captain of his Lucknow Super Giants for three years, but their relationship has been a matter of extensive speculation since their public discussion following a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad the previous season when LSG was defeated by 10 wickets.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who had recently met with the owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, is anticipated to release a policy on retention. Does LSG have a standpoint on the matter? Goenka avoided articulating the franchise's stance.
Goenka, accompanied by Zaheer Khan, delineated the expectations from the new mentor. "We are aiming for a winning habit. For Zaheer, during his active career and afterward, winning has been a lifestyle for him. That's what we want and hope to achieve."
Zaheer has supplanted Gautam Gambhir, the team's mentor for the first two seasons, as the mentor. LSG reached the play-offs at that time. But they were unable to make the last-four stage in the third season. Goenka attributed the disappointing result to the lack of a mentor.
