Nathan Lyon Eyes Redemption Against India in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Australia's champion spinner Nathan Lyon is resolute in his pursuit of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India at home in November. Despite Australia's recent peak performance, they have lost two home Test series to India consecutively. These losses first came about in 2019 and were followed by a dramatic 2020-21 series where India, in a remarkable reversal of fortune, won 2-1 even after a 36 all out in the first Test at Gabba.

Lyon addressed this ten-year-long battle as "unfinished business," stating that Australia is "extremely hungry to turn things around." Reverberating Lyon's sentiments, Josh Hazlewood noted, "There are quite a few players who have never beaten India in a Test series," underlining the team's eagerness to change this narrative.

The last Australia-India Test series was marked by Australia's defeat caused by an injured Indian team that fielded five debut players in the final Test. One noteworthy newbie was Mohammed Siraj, who had only played his first Test in the series' second match but went on to be the most experienced bowler in the fourth game.

Reflecting on the previous home series, Hazlewood acknowledges India B's formidable strength and the country's deep cricketing talent across formats. Despite the challenging opponents, Lyon remains optimistic, believing that the Australian team is better equipped this time.

As the series commences in Perth on November 22, Australia will be playing against Yashasvi Jaiswal, an Indian opener who recently amassed 712 runs in nine innings at home against England.
