Carlos Alcaraz's Unbeatable Streak at Roland Garros
Carlos Alcaraz, the 21-year-old Spanish tennis sensation, has confidently remarked that there's still plenty of challenging competition out there, despite scoring an impressive 11-match winning streak at Roland Garros. "I had a really great two weeks in Roland Garros -- playing great tennis here, feeling great moving, feeling great hitting the ball. But I can lose against everybody. I have to respect every player," Alcaraz stated.
His latest assured victory was against Tommy Paul of the U.S with 6-3, 7-6 (7), making him the youngest man to reach the Roland Garros' singles semifinals since Novak Djokovic's performance in 2008. However, the young champion has revealed his withdrawal from the approaching Canadian Masters in Montreal due to "a very long season" and the constant hustle of matches.
In another noteworthy game, Alexander Zverev of Germany, Tokyo Games gold medalist, was defeated by Lorenzo Musetti of Italy. The 22-years old Musetti regarded the match as one of his best career performances, leading him to his first significant semifinal since the Wimbledon tournament.
Alcaraz, who holds four Grand Slam titles, is only slightly older than Djokovic when won his bronze in Beijing. He is a trailblazer and has broken numerous records in his still-young career, claiming major championships across all court types, and establishing himself as the youngest ever to reach No. 1 in the ATP rankings.
For now, Alcaraz is geared up for a face-off with Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in the semifinals, while Musetti will take on the veteran Djokovic. Despite the rivalry growing between Alcaraz and Paul, it looks like Alcaraz is doing all the winning, with a 5-2 head-to-head record against Paul. Looking to his spectacular form at Roland Garros, his competitors might beg to differ with Alcaraz's claim of vulnerability.
