After a disappointing T20 World Cup, Nicholas Pooran resigns as the captain of the West Indies White Ball team

     West Indies' 2022 T20 World Cup skipper, Nicholas Pooran, resigned from his position as leader of the previous world champions on Monday. Pooran attributed the choice to "the great disappointment of the T20 World Cup." 

     West Indies only managed to win one game during the opening group stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup, which prevented them from moving on to the Super 12. The West Indies placed last despite being placed in a group with teams like Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Scotland. After Kieron Pollard retired in May of this year, Pooran was appointed the West Indies' ODI and T20 captain.

What Pooran said

     "Since the T20 World Cup was such a big disappointment, I have given the captaincy a lot of thought. I took on the position with tremendous pride and dedication, and during the past year, I have given it my all," stated Pooran in a statement.

     "We must not let the T20 World Cup define who we are, and I will be happy to participate in the next appraisals. And even though it will be a while before we get back together as a team, I want to give CWI plenty of time to get ready for the games against South Africa in March and beyond," Pooran said.

     Pooran stated, "I'm not giving up now. I still have high goals and consider being the captain of the West Indies cricket team to be an honour. There is no question about my continued commitment to West Indies cricket, and I eagerly anticipate offering my talents as a senior player in a supporting capacity. Since I need to focus on what I can bring to the team as a player, I believe it is in the best interests of the West Indies white ball team and of myself personally to step down from my position as captain right now."
