A new head coach has been appointed for the Sri Lanka men’s team

Chris Silverwood has been appointed as the head coach of Sri Lanka Cricket's national men's squad on a two-year contract.

Silverwood will take over as Sri Lanka's head coach, with the team's upcoming away Test series against Bangladesh serving as his first task.

"I am very excited to be on board with Sri Lanka and I cannot wait to get over to Colombo and get started," Chris Silverwood noted. In addition, he also said "They have a talented and passionate group of players and I am really looking forward to meeting up with the players and coaching staff very soon."

Silverwood was also hailed by Ashley De Silva, CEO of SLC: "We are ecstatic to announce Chris as the next national team head coach. He is a seasoned coach, and it is evident from our conversations with him during the recruitment process that he possesses the traits we seek to lead the team forward."

After England's 4-0 Test Ashes series loss to Australia earlier this year, Silverwood, who was appointed England's head coach in October 2019, stepped down.
